The much-loved soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is making a comeback, but not in the way you remember it. Producer Ektaa Kapoor is reintroducing the iconic show in a limited-series format, and this time, her focus is on impact, not TRPs.
“Television is a really big medium and we want to come back and use it to tell smart, serious stories for a limited period. We want to make impact more than TRPs,” she said, highlighting her vision for meaningful content over numbers.
Set to premiere on July 29 at 10:30 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar, the reboot will once again feature Smriti Irani as Tulsi, bringing nostalgia and novelty together. But for Ektaa, it’s also about making the story resonate with today’s generation.
“It’s a whole new world, the world has changed but Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi will deal with the topics that it always stood for,” she said, indicating that the core values of the show will remain intact, albeit with a modern approach.
Ektaa admitted that today’s youth have drifted from television but remains hopeful. “Although television is no longer resonating with youngsters, we are hoping this show has a certain impact on the young India.”
She also stressed the importance of fresh storytelling, stating, “We want to work on making a story that is relevant for today and of course, make it smart and today in its approach.” With a refreshed tone and deeper intent, the new Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is not just a return, it’s a reimagining.
