Elon Musk has numerous goals, but his most important mission is to colonise Mars. The owner of X and Tesla is fascinated by the idea of having humanity hoist its flag on another planet and Musk is willing to use all of his resources to bring one million people to Mars in the near future.
“We are mapping out a game plan to get a million people to Mars. Civilization only passes the single-planet Great Filter when Mars can survive even if Earth supply ships stop coming,” Musk responded to a user on the X platform earlier this week.
Musk’s company, SpaceX, is also tasked with making the huge Mars dream a reality. For many years, he has expressed his desire to set up a colony on Mars.
Musk promised in 2011 that people would be on Mars within the next decade, something we now know did not happen. Musk changed his timeline for getting people to Mars, stating that by 2029, he expects some people to be on the Red Planet, beginning the quest to colonise Mars and eventually achieving his goal of making humans a multiplanetary species.
While it is fascinating to hear Musk describe his plans to transport humans to Mars, he needs a lot of stuff to fall into place for the technology to be capable of handling these operations while also meeting his requirements on reusable rockets, which is an ambitious plan alright.
