English/Welsh actress Emilia Jones, who is known for her role as Kinsey Locke in the Netflix series Locke & Key, and American actor Nicholas Braun, who is known for his role in the HBO series Succession are teaming up for a psychological thriller movie titled Cat Person. The movie is based on a short story written by Kristen Roupenian that was published in The New Yorker in 2017,
The movie will be directed by DGA Award-winning, WGA Award, and BAFTA Award-nominated American director, screenwriter, and author Susanna Fogel, who is best known for her work in projects like The Flight Attendant and The Spy Who Dumped Me. The story is adapted to screen by screenwriter and film producer Michelle Ashford, who is known for her Emmy-nominated writing for the 2010 miniseries The Pacific, and Masters of Sex.
With Emilia Jones and Nicholas Braun playing the lead characters, the story will follow the brief relationship of a twenty-year-old sophomore college student named Margot, played by Emilia Jones, and an elder man who is a regular at the movie theater where Margot works named Robert, played by Nicholas Braun. The original short story that got published in The New Yorker was the year’s most downloaded work of fiction in the portal.
The movie, which seems to have traces of the 2020 thriller-comedy movie Promising Young Woman, will be produced by Jeremy Steckler through Imperative Entertainment, which had previously produced the 2018 Crime-Drama movie The Mule. The movie will also be financed by 30WEST. The movie will be launched for sales at the upcoming Cannes Virtual Market via StudioCanal.
