Indian streaming content has reached a major milestone as Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, starring Emraan Hashmi, has emerged as the most-watched non-English show on Netflix worldwide. The series has secured the number one position on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV list for the week of January 12 to 18, a feat that even widely acclaimed Indian shows like Sacred Games and Heeramandi could not achieve.
According to data released by Tudum, Netflix’s official analytics platform, Taskaree recorded 5.4 million views during the seven-day period. The show comfortably led the list, ahead of Korean romantic comedy Can This Love Be Translated?, which stood second with 4 million views. While the Korean series achieved its numbers in just three days after its January 16 release, Taskaree maintained its lead across the full week.
The Emraan Hashmi-led series also outperformed globally popular titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Alpha Males, and The Queen of Flow. Notably, Taskaree is the only Indian show to feature in the top 10 non-English list this week.
Reacting to the achievement, Emraan Hashmi said the series was made with sincerity and deep respect for customs officers who work tirelessly at Indian airports. He described the global recognition as deeply satisfying and credited audiences for connecting with the show’s honest storytelling.
Created by Neeraj Pandey and co-directed by Raghav Jairath, Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web follows Mumbai-based customs officers as they take on an international smuggling network. The series also stars Zoya Afroz, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sharad Kelkar, Nandish Singh Sandhu and Anurag Sinha.
