India is under a severe surge of Covid-19 cases but IPL is still going on despite the tight situations, international pressure has increased on BCCI for stopping the league right away, and the lastest to raise his voice is an English Football legend, Gary Lineker.
He tweeted that it is wrong that the league is still running amidst the situation in the country and “People are dying faster than runs being scored for crying out loud”.
I love the @IPL as much as any cricket fan, but it seems so terribly wrong for it to continue given the Covid catastrophe that’s currently occurring in India. People are dying faster than runs are being scored for crying out loud.

Various other people have also criticized BCCI for hosting the competition despite the present circumstances. International media houses have talked about how officials in the league are running for profits in these hard times and how they should be thinking about the people and the players that are in danger due to this league.
The Indian Premier League should not continue given the horrific Covid crisis in India due to Prime Minister @narendramodi's woefully irresponsible leadership. The country's sole focus should be on the raging pandemic. Cricket is irrelevant. #IPL

Many players have already pulled out of the league due to the situation, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson, Andrew Tye, Liam Livingstone, and the first Indian player to do so as Ravichandran Ashwin. Two umpires, Nitin Menon and Paul Reiffel have also pulled out of the league.
