A number of prevailing and popular websites such as Reddit, and major news outlets such as The New York Times, BBC News, The Financial Times, and The Guardian are going through a global outage today, the 8th of June. While trying to use these web pages, the homepage of the particular websites displayed an ‘Error 503’ message and are not accessible.
News reports by TechCrunch, an American online newspaper focusing on high tech and startup companies, this is caused due to a glitch at the content delivery provider, Fastly. The company confirmed to TechCrunch that they are investigating the potential impact on performance with their CDN (content delivery network) services. Other clients of Fastly such as the website of the United Kingdom Government, Business Insider, and Imgur are also affected. The Guardian newspaper working out of Britain said its website and app were being affected by a wider internet outage on Tuesday.
Approximately 21,000 Reddit users reported issues with the website, and more than 2,000 users reported problems with Amazon, as reported by Downdetector.com.
Fastly is yet to confirm the reason for this outage. Data collected from Google Trends unveiled that the internet and google searches for “503 error” started increasing at 3:15 PM IST.
