Ewan McGregor, Sam Heughan & Mark Strong all set for ‘Everest’ directed by Doug Liman

The movie is set to start shooting on January 22 in the UK and Italy, with writer Sheldon Turner working on the script

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor has been roped in to portray the late British mountaineering legend, George Mallory. The movie, which will be directed by Doug Liman of The Bourne Identity fame, has been titled ‘Everest’. According to reports, the upcoming adventure drama will be written for the screen by writer Sheldon Turner, who has previously worked on the superhit movie Up In The Air.

Along with Ewan McGregor, the movie will also be starring English actor Mark Strong and Scottish actor, producer, author, and entrepreneur Sam Heughan, who will be essaying some important roles in the film. The film will also have cinematographer Martin Ruhe working, along with Oscar-winning music composer T. Bone Burnett and Production Designer Oliver Scholl, who is also associated with the project.

The movie will tell the story inspired by Jeffrey Archer’s novel Paths of Glory and is set in 1921. The movie focuses on George Mallory, who will be played by McGregor, who is picked by Arthur Hinks, played by Strong, on behalf of the Royal Geographic Society to scale Mount Everest, which would be deemed previously as unconquerable. The story explores the trio scaling the highest peak in the world is also a singular test of self.

The movie ‘Everest’ will be introduced at the Cannes Virtual Market to buyers during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, which is scheduled this year from July 6 to 17. According to reports, the production schedule for the movie will be beginning in January next year in places like the United Kingdom and Italy.
