Ex-F1 driver Karun Chandhok calls for more diversity in sports for denied entry into a restaurant

The former Grand Prix driver Karun Chandhok was denied to enter the restaurant on the basis of his skin colour. He says more awareness needs to be created against such racist through Formula 1 though it had already taken impressive steps to remark the issue. Chandhok competed in Formula 1 from the year 2009 to 2010. Currently, he is a well-respected commentator and also seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, one of the few dark faces seen in the paddock.

After posting about his recent experience at a restaurant on social media during the Monaco GP by PTI from the UK, Chandhok said that he will not dwell on the past but focus on contributing to make the sport more diverse by having more Indians on board. He did not reveal when the incident took place.

Chandhok said that he is not really interested in talking about the past (the incident)- the key is to talk about the future. He also mentioned that everyone needs to understand and learn why more people from the dark complex haven’t been able to get involved in the sport.

He further stated that historically, Formula 1 is a sport where over 90% of people involved are white and therefore as one of the few people from a minority ethnic background. Chandhok lastly said that he has also been invited onto the EDI working group for Motorsport UK, who are looking at programs to attract people from a diverse background into the sport.
