Anil Deshmukh, the former home minister of Maharashtra and a leader of the NCP (SP), was returning to Katol near Nagpur on Monday night when his car was stoned at Belphata, causing him to suffer head injuries.
After receiving treatment in a government hospital in Katol, Deshmukh, now seventy-four, was transferred to Alexis Super Speciality hospital in Nagpur. Salil, his son, is the NCP (SP) candidate, and Deshmukh is actively campaigning in the region.
Supporters of the MVA marched to the Katol police station shortly after the incident, calling for the attackers to be arrested right away. The Nagpur Rural Police Superintendent, Harrsh Poddar, declared, “I’m on my way to the location. The inspector and deputy SP are present. Our investigation has begun. We are unable to draw any conclusions.
Balasaheb Thorat, a senior Congress leader, denounced the incident. “The home minister comes from a district that lacks law and order. I want the Election Commission to step in right away.”
Mahesh Tapase, the chief spokesperson for the NCP SP, stated that the EC needs to take note of this and treat it seriously. They throw stones at a former home minister. One must determine whether it is motivated by politics.
Deshmukh served as the previous MVA government’s home minister. Due to his suspected involvement in corruption and money laundering, the ED arrested him.
