Watson explained that he was in his first-floor room with his wedding planner when they both looked out of the window and saw the former One Direction star fall into the hotel’s inner courtyard. He vividly recalled seeing Payne land face up on the ground. Watson and his wedding planner were frozen in disbelief, struggling to comprehend the scene that had just unfolded.
In the hours before the incident, Watson observed erratic behavior from Payne, noting that the singer seemed to grow more intoxicated as time passed. He also described a tense interaction between Payne and hotel staff shortly before the fall. When Watson rushed to the balcony and saw Payne’s motionless body, he immediately recognized him, saying he could tell “right away” who it was.
For Watson, the most haunting part of the experience wasn’t just witnessing the fall—it was hearing the sound of Payne’s body hitting the ground. “The impact is burned into my mind,” Watson said emotionally. “Seeing him fall was heartbreaking, but the sound of that impact was something I’ll never forget. Shortly after, these men were seen carrying an unconscious Payne through the lobby and back to his room. Later, Payne fell from the balcony, leading to his untimely death.
A toxicology report revealed the presence of illegal substances in Payne’s system, including cocaine, benzodiazepines, and “pink cocaine,” a synthetic drug allegedly supplied by a hotel employee. Authorities confirmed that Payne was unconscious when he fell, ruling out foul play but highlighting the tragic circumstances of his death.
Liam Payne was laid to rest in November at a small church in Amersham, England. The service was attended by close friends, family, and former bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan. His ex-girlfriend Kate Cassidy also paid her respects at the emotional gathering.
