Following a court hearing, the temporary harassment order against The Flash actor Ezra Miller in Massachusetts that had been put in place after a 12-year-old’s mother accused Miller of acting improperly around her child was lifted on Friday.
In a story that ran last summer in the Daily Beast, the mother, Shannon Guin, accused the Fantastic Beasts actor of intimidating her family and behaving improperly towards her nonbinary child. No charges at any were ever brought. According to Miller’s attorney, the mother always started their interactions with the child. Miller was “never alone with the child and never interacted with the child outside of two brief encounters that occurred in the presence of several other adults,” according to the attorney Marissa Elkins.
Elkins added that contrary to Guin’s claims, Miller never carried a weapon on them throughout these interactions. Miller showed up at the Greenfield District Court hearing on the case today. Elkins and sources said that Guin didn’t show up. The injunction, which had been scheduled to expire on July 1 and can be read here, was upheld by the judge.
“The original order, pursued by Shannon Guin, on behalf of her minor child, was based on untrue allegations,” Elkins stated. “Unfortunately for Ezra, Guin filed her bogus accusations at a time when Ezra was dealing with serious mental health problems and was unable to appear in court to defend themselves against the flimsy allegations brought by this person. If Ezra had been permitted to show up in court last year and reveal.
Miller also issued a statement today that Deadline was able to get; this is the second time they have addressed the public since the The Flash debut a few weeks ago. They stated, “I’m heartened by today’s conclusion and very appreciative right now to everyone who has stood by me and worked to ensure that this terrible misuse of the protective order system was prevented.
Protective orders are intended to offer safety to vulnerable people, including families and children. When there are people who actually and urgently want these services, they are not intended to be used as weapons by those looking for attention, brief tabloid celebrity, or some type of personal vengeance.
Then they added, “I have been unfairly and specifically targeted by a person who the facts have proven has a history of such manipulative and harmful activity.
