Max Verstappen, the current Formula One world champion, crashed in the third practice session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday, with Pierre Gasly setting the quickest time.
While attempting to match the pace of his Red Bull colleague Sergio Perez, Verstappen went wide on a tricky left-hand bend in the old town portion. Verstappen’s car’s suspension was broken after a low-speed collision with the barrier on the exit. The race was brought to a halt so that Verstappen’s stranded vehicle could be rescued. The Dutch driver was noticeably irritated that his preparation for Saturday’s qualifying session had been hampered, and he finished 15th as a result of his restricted running.
Gasly of AlphaTauri was the quickest with a timing of 1 minute 42.251 seconds, defeating Perez by.344 seconds. However, Perez still holds the quickest time of the weekend thus far.
Lewis Hamilton, the defending champion, complained of a lack of grip, but after two bad practice sessions on Friday where he got closer to Red Bull’s speed. Hamilton finished third in the session with a lap of 1:42.697, his best time of the weekend so far, only .446 seconds behind Gasly. Valtteri Bottas, a teammate, finished at 13th place.
