Facts you didn’t know about Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba is a French soccer player who currently plays for Manchester United as well as the France national team. He is primarily a central midfielder, but he can also play as an offensive intermediate or defensive playmaker.

Here are some interesting facts about him that not many people know about:

1.His Nickname:

During his stay in Italy, the Frenchman was known as IL Polpo Paul in Italian. Because of his gangly legs, he earned that moniker.

IL Polpo Paul is an abbreviation for ‘Paul The Octopus.’ Have you heard it somewhere? You guessed correctly. Paul the Octopus was apparently a real Octopus who became famous for correctly predicting game results during the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

2. First to wear a number 6 shirt:

Paul became the Premier League’s first midfielder to wear the number 6 shirt. Previously, Jonny Evans and Wes Brown wore it, but they were defenders.

3. The nationality of his brothers

What is less well known is that each of his brothers is from a different country. While Paul represents France, Florentin and Mattias represent New Guinea.

Isn’t this a fascinating family? Just one of the five facts about Paul Pogba you didn’t know.

4. His inspiration in football

Paul Pogba has openly declared the respect and love he harbors for Andrea Pirlo. The Italian pass master happens to be his role model. As a matter of fact, Pogba’s first appearance for Juventus came as a substitute for Pirlo in a game against Benfica.

5. He was an Arsenal fan growing up

While growing up, Paul was an avid Arsenal fan and would cheer for them. He said Arsene Wenger’s side was popular in France. Back when Pogba was just about to enter his teens, The Gunners had a French contingent who were at the height of their powers. Arsene Wenger managed the likes of Thierry Henry and Robert Pires, two of the greatest footballers of their generation, and created ‘The Invincibles’ team back then.

Paul Pogba, on his day, is one of the best players on the field. One of the most talented and gifted players in our generation. Hopefully, we see him play regularly under Ole and win silverware.
