Video game adaptations have had a busy year. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Last of Us, and Gran Turismo have all renewed interest in big-screen adaptations of video games, and the celebration isn’t about to end.
The Fallout series, which will be a role-playing video game adaptation, is likely to rank among the largest and greatest thriller series soon to be available on Amazon Prime Video. The post-apocalyptic storyline of the Fallout video game is set in a different atompunk setting.
But when will the next season premiere, and who will play the lead roles? That’s what we’ve learned, and you can learn all there is to know about the Fallout series release date by reading on.
What’s the Fallout series release date?
There is currently no set release date for the Fallout series, although all indications point to a mid-2024 release.
The streaming service first acquired the rights in 2020, and production on the project continued until about 2022, when shooting got under way in July. According to reports, filming ended in February 2023. Jonathan Nolan, the brother of Christopher Nolan, and Lisa Joy created the television series.
The finest Western television series, Westworld, was co-created by Jonathan Nolan, who also co-wrote several of Christopher Nolan’s films, including The Dark Knight and Interstellar. The Fallout season one premiere was directed by Jonathan Nolan as well.
What’s the Fallout series about?
Although the Fallout series’ premise has not been revealed, it appears that it will not be an exact replication of any one plot from the game but rather a unique tale set in the Fallout universe.
“For this, it was ‘Let’s do something that exists in the world of Fallout.’ It’s not retelling a game’s story,” said Bethesda (the video game publisher that owns Fallout) director Todd Howard [via the Lex Fridman podcast]. “It’s an area of the map and, like, let’s tell a story here that fits in the world we built and doesn’t break any of the rules. It can reference things in the games but isn’t a retelling of the games. It exists in the same world, but it’s its own unique thing, so it adds to it.”
What is the Fallout video game about, then? The game, however, takes place in a different chronology based on events that took place in our reality after World War II.
It is characterised by an atomic era that employs retro-futuristic technology in the manner of the 1950s and culminates in the Great War in 2077. (It is comparable to The Incredibles but less family-friendly.) Since the novel also examines issues of American exceptionalism and the American Dream, there are also political undercurrents.
The Fallout series consists of several episodes and numerous spin-offs. However, if the TV series is going to be an original project, all of this seems quite pointless. If we were to hazard a guess, we’d say that the series will take place in the future in this post-apocalyptic setting and have a quest-style adventure like the previous game.
Although there isn’t a trailer for the Fallout series yet, filming has ended, so we could have the first glimpse before 2023 is out.
Nevertheless, a behind-the-scenes film contains some of the opinions of the project’s creators. Additionally, it’s a fantastic opportunity to observe how the set may appear behind Jonathan Nolan. (Also a stealth appearance of a metallic hand.) Consider checking it out if you enjoy the game or simply want a chance to geek out.
When it ultimately becomes available, the Fallout series will be available on Amazon Prime Video.
You’d better make sure you’re a member of the platform since it’ll soon join the constantly expanding slate of anything new on Amazon Prime Video. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Uncharted are just a few of the other video game films available on the service to rent or buy in the meantime.
