The teaser of filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming film O Romeo has generated strong reactions online, largely due to a single line delivered by veteran actor Farida Jalal. Her unexpected use of a cuss word in the brief clip surprised viewers and quickly became a talking point on social media, with fans reacting with a mix of shock and amusement.
Responding to the attention, Farida Jalal said the moment came after careful discussion with the director. In an interview with Zoom, the actor recalled her first conversation with Vishal Bhardwaj, whom she described as one of her long-time favourite filmmakers. Having recently fulfilled another career wish by working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Heeramandi, she said collaborating with Vishal was equally special for her.
Farida shared that when Vishal visited her home and discussed the role, he directly asked whether she would be comfortable using cuss words. She admitted being momentarily overwhelmed but made her position clear. According to the actor, she refused to use explicit or filthy abuses, explaining that she would only agree to something mild and limited. Vishal, she said, understood her stance and responded with laughter.
Addressing the online uproar, Farida noted that she uses such language only once in the film, yet the response has been intense. She acknowledged that audiences have grown up watching her in dignified roles, which may explain the surprise.
However, she maintained that the dialogue suited her character, who is portrayed as perpetually short-tempered. As the teaser dropped, fan comments ranged from excitement to disbelief, further amplifying the buzz around O Romeo.
