FASTag mandatory from February 15; vehicles without tag to be charged double fee

The government announced that FASTags will be mandatory from February 15 at midnight. The vehicles without the tags fitted will be charged a double toll fee on all national highways said an official statement.

The statement read, “It has been decided that all the lanes in the fee plazas on national highways shall be declared as ‘FASTag lane of the fee plaza’ with effect from midnight of 15th /16th February 2021.”

All toll lanes will be declared as FASTag lane from midnight of February 15. “Therefore, as per NH Fee Rules 2008, any vehicle not fitted with FASTag or vehicle without valid, functional FASTag entering into the FASTag lane of the fee plaza shall pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to that category,” the statement said.

The decision will promote digital fee payment, lower waiting time, and fuel consumption. Judges, lawmakers, ministers, top bureaucrats, top military officers, and emergency service workers, among others, will not require to attest FASTag.
