Fire breaks out again at same building of Serum Institute, 5 died earlier

After the loss of 5 lives in a fire earlier today, a fresh fire broke out at the same  under-construction building of Serum Institute of India.

Chairman and MD of Serum Institute of India, Cyrus Poonwalla said that the company will provide compensation of ₹25 lakh in addition to the mandated amount to families of people who died in the fire on the company premises.

CEO Adar Poonawalla wrote on Twitter, “I would like to reassure all governments & the public that there would be no loss of #COVISHIELD production due to multiple production buildings that I had kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at @SerumInstIndia.”

A fire broke out earlier in the BCG manufacturing section, the cause of which remains undiscovered. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has ordered a fire audit to obtain complete information on the case.
