First hilltop Buddhist Monastery found in exavations in Bihar

Excavation team director Anil Kumar said, the first hilltop Buddhist monastery of the Gangetic Valley has been found in Lakhisarai district of the state at Lal Pahari. This monastery was excavated by a joint collaboration of the Bihar Heritage Development Society and youth affairs and the Visva-Bharati University. It was named as ‘Srimaddharmaviharik aryabhiksusanghasya’ which translates to ‘ the sealing of the council of monks of Srimaddharma Vihara’. The state government has made elaborate conservation plans to preserve the monastic structure.
