Fishermen shooting case: Supreme Court suppresses criminal arguments against Italian marines in India

The Supreme Court on Monday requested the conclusion of procedures in India against two Italian marines, blamed for killing two anglers off the Kerala coast in February 2012.

An excursion seat of Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah suppressed the FIR and procedures exuding from the body of evidence against the two Italian marines Massimilano Latorre and Salvatore Girone. The seat said that according to the global arbitral honour acknowledged by India, the Republic of Italy will continue further examination for the situation.

The top court named the Rs.10 crore paid by the Republic of Italy far beyond the instalment previously made as “sensible and sufficient”. On Friday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had educated the seat regarding Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah that Rs 10 crore remuneration, which Italy had consented to pay the groups of the people in question, had been kept in the court registry in accordance with its prior order.

The remuneration is a commonly concurred sum among India and Italy as far as the honour by a global court. The Supreme Court had before said that Rs.4 crore each out of the pay will go to the closest relative of the two anglers while Rs.2 crore will be given to the proprietor of the fishing vessel in which they were voyaging.

The incident had happened off the Kerala coast in 2012. For the disbursal of ₹10 crore compensation to the family of Indian fishermen killed by Italian Marines in 2012, the Supreme Court shall pass an order on 15th June.

Celestine and Ajeesh Pinku were shot dead in the seas off the Ambalapuzha coast in Kerala when they had gone deep sea fishing from Neendakara Fishing Harbour in 2012. The ship was identified as Enrica Lexie from which the fishermen were fired upon, reportedly in the international waters. According to the officials who claimed to have thought them to be pirates”.
