Five wagons of Goods Train Derails in Jalpaiguri District

Five wagons of an empty goods train derailed at New Maynaguri railway station in Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday morning, disrupting rail services. The incident occurred at 6:20 am, according to a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official, who confirmed that no injuries were reported.

The derailment, which caused damage to overhead electricity cables and poles, led to the diversion of several trains. This route plays a vital role in connecting the northeastern states with the rest of India, making the disruption particularly significant.

Restoration efforts are currently underway, with NFR officials expecting train movement to resume by noon. Senior railway authorities have reached the site and are conducting an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw commented on the incident, stating, “The railway administration is on alert, and we are in contact with state governments, DGPs, and Home Secretaries. The NIA is also involved, and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for any accidents.”

As investigations continue, railway authorities are working to ensure minimal disruption to passenger services and to restore normalcy as quickly as possible. The cause of the derailment is yet to be confirmed.
