Flying Sikh passes away: PM Narendra Modi and several others offer condolences

The PM in his tweet wrote, “In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared him to millions. Anguished by his passing away.”

The legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh took his last breaths on late Friday, June 18, after battling for a month long from COVID-19, a family member mentioned. The 91-year-old was tested negative for COVID-19 after a strong fight on Wednesday.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi took to twitter to offer condolences on the demise of the “Flying Sikh”.

The PM in his tweet wrote, “In the passing away of Shri Milkha Singh Ji, we have lost a colossal sportsperson, who captured the nation’s imagination and had a special place in the hearts of countless Indians. His inspiring personality endeared him to millions. Anguished by his passing away.”

He also mentioned earlier how he wasn’t aware about their conversation being the last one they ever had. Narendra Modi said, “I had spoken to Shri Milkha Singh Ji just a few days ago. Little did I know that it would be our last conversation. Several budding athletes will derive strength from his life journey. My condolences to his family and many admirers all over the world.”

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh also took to twitter to offer condolences.

 

The Environment minister also gave his condolences via twitter.

And many other news agencies, sports agencies, politicians and others gave their condolences on the demise of the legendary Milkha Singh.
