The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued a Rs 1,000 crore defamation complaint to yoga teacher Swami Ramdev for his controversial views against allopathy, modern medicine, and their application in the treatment of COVID-19.
The Uttarakhand chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the premier body of Indian doctors, has issued a defamation notice to Baba Ramdev.
A amount of Rs 1,000 crore would be requested from Ramdev if he does not post a video opposing his statements and make a written apology within the next 15 days, according to the IMA notification.
The IMA had previously expressed strong opposition to Baba Ramdev’s provocative remarks and requested that he be punished severely. A letter has been addressed to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary in this regard, according to IMA state unit President Dr Ajay Khanna.
“There is a lot of hostility among the IMA doctors regarding Baba Ramdev’s remarks, according to the letter. Ramdev has also received a notice from the Union Health Minister, stating that his remark is wrong “, added Dr. Khanna.
He went on to say that the state government should take swift action against Swami Ramdev. On behalf of the IMA, a defamation notice has been filed to Ramdev, according to Dr. Ajay Khanna.
“If the government does not take serious action on the matter, a FIR will be filed in addition to the defamation case that will be filed soon,” he stated. Baba Ramdev has reversed his views against allopathic medicine after courting controversy. He also received a stern letter from Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, who described his comments as “unacceptable.”
“We are not opposed to contemporary medicine or allopathy. We feel that allopathy has made significant advances in surgery and the life-saving system, and that it has benefited humanity. My statement was included in a WhatsApp message that I was reading during a volunteer meeting. I apologize if I offended anyone’s feelings “In a Hindi letter to the Union Health Minister, Ramdev mentioned.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) issued a legal warning to yoga guru Ramdev on Saturday, accusing him of making anti-allopathic remarks and “defaming” scientific medicine.
The Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, on the other hand, has denied that Ramdev misled people by making “unlearned” remarks about allopathy and defamed scientific medicine, as claimed by the IMA.
“IMA draws to our Health Minister’s attention a video circulating on social media depicting the famed Yoga Guruji saying, ‘modern allopathy ek aisi foolish aur diwaliya science hai’ (modern allopathy is a foolish and failed science),” the group stated in a statement.
In Ramdev’s defense, the Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust claimed that in the video that has gone viral on social media, Yoga Guru was reading out a WhatsApp sent message.
