Four states cut petrol, diesel taxes

Four states, namely West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Rajasthan, have reduced taxes for petrol and diesel in order to provide relief to customers.

The prices are still higher than the petrol and diesel prices in Delhi, however. The rates are now Rs.86.87 in Shillong, Rs.91.78 in Kolkata, Rs.87.24 in Guwahati and Rs.97.10 in Jaipur for petrol. For diesel, it is Rs.80.24, Rs.81.49, Rs.84.56 and Rs.89.44 in Shillong, Guwahati, Kolkata and Jaipur respectively. Prices in Delhi for petrol is Rs.90.58 and diesel is Rs.80.97.

Prices of crude oil have been increased since November by 60% because of various factors like the vaccine and freezing conditions in the US. Global fuel prices last year crashed and the Indian government decided to raise taxes on fuel instead of cutting retail rates.
