France approves bill aiming to restrict rise in Islamism

The National Assembly of France, on Tuesday, affirmed an enactment plan mostly to counter an ascent in Islamism in towns and urban communities which compromises public solidarity according to the government. The bill passed by 347 votes to 151 in parliament’s lower house.

The bill got serious about practices like constrained marriage and virginity tests. It included extreme measures for reconnaissance of religious affiliations and more tight limitations on educating children outside public schools.

Doctors will be jailed for performing virginity tests on girls. The bill also restricts authorities from issuing residency papers to polygamous applicants.

The bill was advanced after October 16, after the beheading of Samuel Paty, a school teacher by a teenage Islamist, as he was offended when the teacher showed cartoons of Prophet Mohammed in his freedom of speech class.

“He was killed because Islamists want to take our future. They will never have it.” Macron said at a memorial service for Paty.
