France to soon begin using India’s UPI payment mechanism: PM Narendra Modi

India and France have agreed to use Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment mechanism which will begin from the iconic Eiffel Tower, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. He added that the Indian tourists in France will now be able to make payments in Rupees.

“Be it India’s UPI or other digital platforms, they have brought a huge social transformation in the country and I am happy that India and France are also working together in direction,” said Modi while addressing the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris.

The PM added that it is the duty of Indians in France to take it forward as he will be leaving post the agreement. He also mentioned that the Indians will be able to make payments at Eiffel Tower, from where it will begin.

The announcement is seen as significant development for bilateral trade and tourism between India and France. PM Modi also stated that the two countries have been working on archaeological missions for long time now.

As quoted by ANI, PM also stressed the people to connect between France and India as this is the strongest foundation of the partnership between the two countries.
