Gareth Bale is considering retirement following the Euros

Gareth Bale’s best days as a Real Madrid player were under Carlo Ancelotti, who got the most out of the Welshman during his first stint at the club. Many expected Bale to excel again now that Ancelotti has back, but he may not get the chance to play under him. Aside from his unwillingness to re-wear the Real Madrid jersey, Bale is considering retiring from football once Euros end.

Despite struggling for consistent game time under both Jose Mourinho and Ryan Mason, the Welshman managed to score 16 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. However, the continental tournament may be the last time we see Bale on a professional football ground.

Despite popular belief, Bale is content and settled in Madrid. In fact, while he was on loan in London, his family remained in Spain’s capital. Both Ancelotti and Bale have spoken about each other since the Italian’s return to Valdebebas were confirmed, but despite their mutual admiration, they may not work together again.

If Bale retires, the Spanish club will save approximately €22 million in salaries. If he decides to retire after Euro 2020, the Welsh attacker will be hailed as a Real Madrid icon. Bale earned four Champions League titles with the club and scored in two finals, including his legendary bicycle kick against Liverpool in Kiev.

His personal statistics at Los Blancos are likewise rather impressive. Bale scored 105 goals and provided 68 assists in 251 games, a record that any world-class attacker would be proud of. We all want to witness Bale under Ancelotti, hopefully, Bale continues at Real for at least the next season. We’ll have to wait till the Euros end.
