In the brand-new comedy film Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the original Ghostbusters are back together after more than thirty years. What remains to be seen is if this franchise still has life in it or if it was just its final breath before being contained.
Jason Reitman, the filmmaker of Afterlife, has stated his desire for the series to continue beyond his film. “I think it’s no secret that my father and I would love Ghostbusters mythology to keep growing from Afterlife,” he said. “We wanted to make a movie that would set the table for all kinds of Ghostbusters films.”
Nevertheless, it’s intriguing to imagine where the series may go beyond Ghostbusters: Afterlife. That the lads in grey weren’t finished yet was clearly hinted at. As a result, this is all that is known thus far about Ghostbusters 4. Yes, we are aware that Afterlife is the fourth film in the series, but Reitman’s continuation excludes Ghostbusters (2016) from the major plot.
“The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was driving back into Manhattan: the home of Ghostbusters. That’s where our story begins. The code name is FIREHOUSE.” –@JasonReitman, @GilKenan #GhostbustersDay pic.twitter.com/P3QRild2Vs

Ghostbusters 4 Plot
Well, the post-credits sequence for Ghostbusters: Afterlife undoubtedly hinted at a continuation. But we couldn’t determine with any certainty what shape it takes, and when we questioned Reitman, he wouldn’t answer.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that “all society has a bond with the supernatural.” Is it feasible that Zeddemore opens a new office and perhaps even franchises it with the money he allegedly gained in finance after quitting Ghostbusters? Perhaps new Ghostbusters offices will pop up all around the world?
We also know that the movie will begin in New York City because that is where Zeddemore was last seen returning the Ecto-1. We’re likely exchanging rural Oklahoma for the urban jungle then.
One more tease has been released by Jason Reitman. He said in an interview with Uproxx that some of the plot beats established in Afterlife didn’t pay off but may still be useful in a follow-up.
Ghostbusters 4 Cast
We don’t know who will be in the Ghostbusters 4 cast as of now. But we may assume that McKenna Grace will reprise her role as Phebe Spengler. If Phoebe were to return, Carrie Coon would play her mother Callie and Finn Wolfhard would play her brother Trevor.
Even while we’d love to see the old team put on their uniforms once more, we doubt they will all return. It would make sense for Winston Zeddemore to return as Afterlife plainly establishes Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore as the Ghostbusters’ new patron. Similarly, we find that Ray Stantz from Dan Ackroyd’s esoteric book store is still in New York and operating, suggesting that he could return.
On the other side, Bill Murray is the outlier. In the past, Murray has a history of being coy about his desire to rejoin the Ghostbusters franchise. We wouldn’t be shocked if it was the last time we saw Peter Venkman, despite the fact that he did return for Afterlife and may do so again if he loves the screenplay.
Ghostbusters 4 Release Date
