Glenn Murray, a former Brighton and Crystal Palace attacker, has declared his retirement from sports. After leaving Brighton, the 37-year-old played the second half of the season on loan with Nottingham Forest.
However, with his contract set to expire at the end of June, Murray resorted to social media to announce his retirement, writing: “To all the Clubs, Players & Fans that I’ve come across on this life-changing journey…THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. It’s been a pleasure, hanging them up 31/05/2021”
After starting his career in non-league with Workington Reds and Wilmington Hammerheads in America, the striker started on a journey that saw him play in England’s top six levels. Murray, who was born in Cumbria, had his big break with Carlisle United, where he helped the club win promotion from the Conference in 2005 and the League Two title the following season before transferring to Rochdale.
Murray subsequently joined Brighton in 2008, scoring 22 goals to lead them to the League One title in 2011 and became a fan favourite during his three years at the club.

After that, he moved to Crystal Palace, where he scored 30 goals in the Eagles’ promotion-winning season to the Premier League in 2013, which was a Championship record until Brentford’s Ivan Toney broke it this season. Murray returned to Brighton in 2016 and helped the Seagulls reach the Premier League for the first time in their history, scoring 23 goals in the first season of his second stint with the club.
Overall, the forward scored 111 goals for Brighton, placing him second on the club’s all-time scoring chart. He also earned promotion four times and scored more than 200 goals in his career.
