Comedian Jo Koy made an uproarious debut at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, sparking laughter with a bold remark aimed at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Even though Koy had only taken up the hosting duties two weeks before, he handled the star-studded event with grace. Koy’s humour added a vibrant and entertaining element to the event, demonstrating his ability to effortlessly connect with Hollywood’s elite while keeping the atmosphere light and memorable.
Comedian Jo Koy entertained Hollywood celebrities on his Golden Globes debut by making funny jokes about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Just two weeks before the event, the Filipino-American comedic star Koy accepted the hosting duties.
In his opening monologue, he teased celebs such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Bradley Cooper, and actor Barry Keoghan before turning his attention to the royal couple.
Koy said, “Harry and Meghan Markle got paid millions for doing absolutely nothing – and that’s just by Netflix.”
The audience reacted with laughter and the camera focused on Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s CEO. Notably, Harry and Meghan were not present at the awards ceremony. The joke referred to the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, which was released in December 2022 and featured the couple discussing their choice to step back from their responsibilities as working members of the royal family.
Koy’s joke, which viewers described as “brutal,” came after what many consider a difficult year for the former royals.
