Good News: Delhi AIIMS to start trail on children from June, 15, 2021

Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences is expected to begin on Tuesday the recruitment and clinical trials of India’s first originally developed Covid-19 vaccine, viz Bharat Biotech Covaxin

Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences is expected to begin its trial on Tuesday the recruitment and clinical trials of India’s first indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, on children.

As per IANS news agency, the trials will begin for children whose age is 6-12 years. Besides this such trials have already been started at AIIMS Patna.

The report mentioned that they will begin the vaccine after their screening report comes. The trial would initiate if the Covaxin jab is suitable for children.

Delhi AIIMS  decided to start the trial drive after the recruitment and clinical trial for single-dose of Covaxin for the age group 12-18  is over. The trials are going to take place at 525 centres.

Mr. Paul said that, “Child cohort is not a small cohort. Its rough guess is that if it is between 12 to 18 years, this itself is about 13 to 14 crore population and for which we will need about 25-26 crore doses. We cannot have some people getting and others not getting. So we  have to take this into account when we strategize and make a decision based on how many doses of which vaccines are available.”

As per the IANS update, a national expert group has been formed to analyse COVID-19 infections in children and approached the pandemic in a renewed way to strengthen the nation’s preparedness, NITI Aayog Member (Health) V.K. Paul had said at a press conference.
