Google continues to get haunted by ‘Joker virus’ found in 8 android apps

A new batch of eight joker malware-laced apps on the Google play store is detected by the researchers at Quick Heal Security Labs.  Continually targeting android devices joker is one of the most persistent malware. By reportedly changing execution methods, payload retrieving techniques or changing its code, every few months the data-stealing malware finds its way into Google’s official app store.

Including OTPs, device info, contact list and SMS the Joker steals users data and more according to researchers. Although the applications will continue to stay on users android phones till deleted, Google has already removed the applications from its Play Store and the below mentioned are the names of 8 applications that are needed to be removed which are Auxiliary Message, Fast Magic SMS, Free CamScanner, Super Message, Element Scanner, Go Messages, Travel Wallpapers and Super SMS.

Only when a user interacts with it in the form of an application installed as such, the Joker is a Trojan malware that then gets activated and then goes past the device’s security and can render the device useless or even steal information from it. In the form of an application installation, it downloads a secured configuration from a command and control server.  Under the guise of the host’s interaction with ad websites, the hidden software then installs a follow-up component that steals SMS details.

In some cases, the malware subscribes the user to premium services without their consent and initiates stealing money from them.
