Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government of India has identified GST fraud of ₹20,124 crore from November 9, 2020 to January 31, 2021.
The government is conducting a special drive all over the country to identify deceitful organizations availing and passing on Input Tax Credit (ITC) illegally using fake invoices, said FM in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Since the initiation of the special drive on November 9, 2020 to January 31, 2021, officers have booked 2,692 cases that involved GST/ITC fraud of ₹20,124.19 crore. A total of ₹857.75 crore was recovered and 282 people were arrested.
Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur said that ₹2,223.88 crores of undisclosed income has been detected by the Income Tax department from April-December 2020.
Thakur further added, “A robust risk profiling mechanism has been put in place to identify and monitor high-risk cases primarily through the use of information technology and appropriate action is taken as per the law.”
