Government imposes Faceless Assessment Scheme in IT department
Faceless assessment is being held out to remove the human interaction between the tax payer and the income tax department. Finance minister said, the faceless tax scrutiny assessment would help in easing compliance burden of taxpayers and increase fairness and objectivity in the tax system.
Under the scheme, certain penalty centers and regional units will be set up, abolition of territorial jurisdiction, central issuance of notice with document identification number (DIN) are some of the features of the scheme.
Phases were conducted to identify the assessment, in first phase around 58000 were registered and 24700 were passed through faceless system. Some left-over cases around 1500 were understatement and has been observed with imposing certain penalties.
The income tax department aims to improve the economic activities which in turn helps to spread the tax base.
