The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has put the division of Gas Authority of India (GAIL) into two separate companies on hold, MoneyControl has reported.
The state-owned company was supposed to be divided into two companies, one for gas transmission and another for marketing business. The government had entrusted Ernst & Young as a company to carry out the process. The move was touted to be as one that would bring in more transparency in the gas market.
Currently, GAIL is the biggest company that trades and markets gas in India with almost 17,000 km of pipeline work, almost 70% of pipeline work in the country.
