Gujarat govt sets deadline for compulsory vaccination for staff of all businesses

The government has also warned that “the units” which don’t follow the order on vaccination will be forced to shut down.

The Vijay Rupani led Gujarat government, on Thursday, announced a slew of decisions with regards to Coronavirus restrictions in the state. In a major announcement, all businesses or professional establishments present in 18 cities and towns, where the night curfew continues, would be required to get their staff vaccinated by 30 June. For businesses in other parts of Gujarat, the deadline for conducting vaccination of their employees is July 10.

The decision, among many others, was taken at a committee meeting headed by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The government has also warned that “the units” which don’t follow the order on vaccination will be forced to shut down.

Out of the 36 cities and towns of Gujarat where pandemic-related restrictions are in place, night curfew has been lifted in 18 of them while the restriction has been extended for others. The places where night curfew would continue include Surat, Vadodra, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Ankleshwar, Vapi, Valsad, Bharuch, Bhuj, Patan, Morbi, Gandhidham, Mehsana, and Navsari.

The new restrictions will be implemented from June 27.

Some lockdown destructions have been loosened by the state government. Restaurants can now operate till 9 pm on a 60% seating capacity while 100 guests can be invited to a wedding function. Multiplexes, auditoriums and cinemas can work at 50% capacity and the government transport buses will work at 75% capacity. 40 people are now allowed to go for a funeral while religious and political events cannot include more than 200 people and 50% capacity.

Meanwhile, Coronavirus cases continue to subside in Gujarat with the state recording 129 new cases and 2 deaths due to the virus on Thursday. However, the emergence of cases of the Delta plus variant in neighbouring states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have worried the health authorities of the western state. The government has announced regular genome sequencing to detect cases of the new strain of COVID-19.
