Celebrated actor Manoj Bajpayee has expressed heartfelt gratitude after receiving a Special Mention at the 70th National Film Awards for his role in Gulmohar. The prestigious awards ceremony, held today, October 8, in Delhi, saw President Droupadi Murmu presenting honors to the nation’s finest cinematic talents. Bajpayee, who has now won his fourth National Award, humbly called himself a “lucky artist,” emphasizing how special this moment is for him.
Bajpayee’s role in Gulmohar, which also stars Sharmila Tagore, has garnered significant recognition, with the film clinching three awards, including Best Feature Film in Hindi. Bajpayee’s powerful performance earned him a Special Mention, and in a pre-award statement, he reflected on his journey, recalling how winning such accolades was once a distant dream during difficult times.
What makes this win especially meaningful for Bajpayee is the presence of his wife, who will be attending the National Awards for the first time. He shared in a video message how her presence makes this award even more personal.
Directed by Rahul V. Chittella, Gulmohar tells the poignant story of a family reuniting one last time at their ancestral home before it’s demolished. With a star-studded cast and compelling storyline, the film has captured both hearts and awards, and is currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
The 70th National Film Awards continues to celebrate the best in Indian cinema at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
