Gupra Alliance meets for the first time in 6 months amid fresh J&K bifurcation rumour

To discuss the “prevailing uncertainty” in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), The National Conference led a five-party People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration met for the first time in six months at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s Srinagar residence on Wednesday for ostensibly triggered by rumours about the central planning for a further bifurcation of the Union territory.

The reaction of the alliance to the possibility of a “big development” was denied by the Srinagar MP and NC president Farooq Abdullah. The arrival of 200 companies of paramilitary forces had exited the valley with a talk on how it was a signal of something brewing in Kashmir. According to Farooq, they have not been asked or informed about the ongoing speculation.

Working for the well-being of the people of Kashmir is the primary goal of the conglomerate and would remain unchanged may whatever the circumstances be as said by Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami from PAGD. To fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status before the nullification of Article 370 of the constitution in 2019, the Alliance has been formed.

The rumours circulating on social media claiming that there was no question of any such misadventure was rushed to be switched by the administration. The return of paramilitary forces to the valley was a routine exercise as many companies had been moved out ahead of assembly elections in four States and one in UT as per the sources.

Javid Mustafa Mir, NC’s Anantnag MP Hassnain Masoodi and Mehbooba Beg from PDP were also a part of the meeting.
