Guy Ritchie and 2 mistreated Marvel icons are making a ‘contemporary Indiana Jones’ movie

It seems like Guy Ritchie is about to give us a new take on the action-adventure genre with Fountain of Youth, a film that’s being pitched as a contemporary homage to Indiana Jones — but with a modern twist and a fresh ensemble cast. After the mixed reception of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Harrison Ford’s apparent retirement from the iconic role, Disney might be pondering how to carry the torch forward. That’s where Ritchie, John Krasinski, and Natalie Portman come in, ready to embark on their own globe-trotting adventure.

Ritchie has made a name for himself with slick action films (think Sherlock Holmes and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), and he’s returning to the action-adventure genre with this one, but with a family-friendly slant. Fountain of Youth will follow estranged siblings Luke (Krasinski) and Charlotte (Portman) Purdue as they team up for a global heist to track down the legendary Fountain of Youth. Krasinski’s character is an adventurous, thrill-seeking archaeologist, while Portman’s Charlotte has distanced herself from that dangerous lifestyle, only to be pulled back into the fold by her brother. Joining them on their quest is Eiza González, who’s set to play a presumably tough, action-ready character.

While the premise certainly echoes the Indiana Jones spirit, it seems more like a The Mummy-type adventure, with mismatched characters bonding during a treasure hunt. This could be either a refreshing take or a potential misfire, especially given the mixed success of recent attempts like Jungle Cruise. However, Ritchie’s knack for stylish action could still make this film a worthy entry into the genre, and the cast certainly has a lot of potential.

With no official release date yet, but a confirmed arrival on Apple TV+ in 2025, Fountain of Youth will be one to keep an eye on. It might just be the perfect recipe for a modern action-adventure film that combines nostalgia with a fresh, new energy.
