It’s hard to wrap your head around Harrison Ford, a legend from Star Wars and Indiana Jones, now entering the Marvel Universe as Red Hulk. The thought of him battling Captain America, no less, would’ve seemed outlandish just a few years ago. But this February, in Captain America: Brave New World, that’s exactly what’s happening. Ford’s portrayal of Thaddeus Ross, a character previously played by the late William Hurt, will see him transform into the monstrous Red Hulk, giving fans something entirely new to process.
Director Julius Onah has hyped Ford’s performance as “mind-blowing,” emphasizing that it brings a return to the Hulk’s brutal, rage-fueled nature—a stark contrast to some of the more comedic interpretations we’ve seen with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and She-Hulk. Onah recalls how impressed everyone was on set, even sharing that the team was blown away by Ford’s take on the character: “All of us on set were like, ‘Holy f**ing sht, he nailed it.’”
However, in true Harrison Ford fashion, the actor himself remains incredibly laidback about the whole thing. When asked about his performance, Ford’s response was typically understated: “Just another day at the office.” He emphasized that his focus was on understanding the filmmakers’ vision and being useful to them, rather than getting too caught up in the specifics of transforming into a Hulk. “It didn’t seem to me to be a terribly difficult acting proposition,” Ford said, showcasing his trademark humility.
Even though playing the hulking rage monster required him to do MoCap (motion capture) acting, a skill that demands exaggerated physicality and emotion, Ford maintained his usual calm demeanor. Fans are surely eager to see footage of him in the grey onesie, unleashing his rage on set—hopefully, the behind-the-scenes footage of Ford channeling his inner Hulk will emerge soon.
Despite some bumps in the road, Captain America: Brave New World is building momentum as one of the most-anticipated movies of 2025. Much of this excitement is likely tied to Ford’s involvement, which has added a layer of intrigue to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, we’ll have to wait and see if Ford’s Red Hulk lives up to the hype when the film premieres on Valentine’s Day. If not, well, the Red Hulk won’t be the only one angry.
