Karan Johar had approached several actresses for the role of Tina in “Kuch Kuch Hota hai” amongst them was the glamourous Aishwarya Rai, who set afoot in Bollywood soon after winning the title of Miss World in 1994. In an interview, with a leading daily, Aishwarya opens up about having rejected the role offered to her by Karan Johar.
Aishwarya was amongst the two actresses to have rejected the role of “Tina”, the first being Karan Johar’s childhood friend, Twinkle Khan who believed she wasn’t well fitted for the role.
However, Aishwarya’s reasons for rejecting the role were different. The role of Tina was all about looking glamourous, pin straight hair, mini dresses, and pouting her way through the camera, which would take Aishwarya back to her modelling days.
Aishwarya had worked her way up and had emerged as an actress who wasn’t willing to go back to being recognized as just a “model”, she wanted to be known for more than just her looks.
Finally, the role of “Tina” landed with Rani Mukherji, who successfully made her way to stealing hearts.
In an interview with a leading daily, she had said, “I know if I’d done Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I would have been lynched.” However, she did feel bad about turning down Karan’s offer, given that they had been really close friends.
However, Karan Johar got the chance of directing Aishwarya’s cameo in “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” starring Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in lead roles.
