Honda to appoint current chief of R&D as next CEO

Honda Motors Co Ltd is planning to appoint their current R&D chief Toshihiro Mibe as their next CEO according to a report from Reuters.

The Japanese automobile company might announce the decision on Friday after a meeting is held. Mibe will be announced as the chief executive officer in June. He will replace Takahiro Hachigo who has been the CEO of the company based in Tokyo for the last six years. Mibe who is currently 59 years old joined Honda in 1987 as an engine developer who also managed drivetrain and powertrain businesses. Usually all Honda CEOs hold a CEO position in the R&D department, although Hachigo wasn’t the CEO of the department before becoming CEO of the company in 2015.

The report from Reuters said that it is not clear as of now if Hachigo will still remain in the company after Mibe becomes CEO.
