Houthi Missile attack in Yemen’s city of Marib kills 17, injures 5

As the intensity of the attacks in Yemen increases, the devastation caused by them is talked about around the world. Since 2014 Yemen has been in a civil war, as the Houthis, who are backed by Iran cleared most of the north of Iran and annexed the country’s capital, Sanna which forced the internationally recognized government to go into a state of exile.

The recent attack was done on the city of Marib, Yemen after a ballistic missile blast killed 17 people which included a five-year-old girl. In addition to the ones who died, 5 other people were also injured. Yemen has blamed the attack on the Houthi rebels which is an Islamist political and armed movement that began from Saada in northern Yemen in the 1990s. The Houthis on the other hand have made no comment about it.

Information gathered from the provincial governor’s press secretary, Ali al-Ghulisi mentioned that the ballistic missile blasted in the Rawdha area when it hit a petrol station. It is also known that everyone who was injured and lost their lives were all civilians.

The Information Minister, Moammar al-Eryani has got in contact with the UN and the USA to denounce this attack and said that it was nothing less than a war crime.

Soon after the missile attack, SABA, a Yemen Government-run news agency announced that the Houthis had also launched an explosive-laden drone. This explosive drone annihilated two ambulances that had come to the area to help.

According to reports, this attack was due to the US special envoy accusation that the Houthis are failing to try and reach an urgently necessitated ceasefire. However, it is not confirmed yet.
