Hugh Jackman recently showed support for his former The Music Man co-star, Sutton Foster, as she performed in Once Upon a Mattress at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles on January 4, 2024. Jackman, who has previously worked with Foster on Broadway, was seen in the audience filming her performance, showing his enthusiasm for her stage work. Carol Burnett, who famously played the role of the Queen in the original production of Once Upon a Mattress, also joined the audience and shared a moment of affection with the crowd, blowing a kiss and waving as she settled into her seat. During the intermission, the audience gave Burnett a standing ovation, recognizing her iconic role.
Jackman and Foster’s collaboration in The Music Man was a significant highlight in both of their careers, with the musical running on Broadway from December 2021 until 2023. Reflecting on their time working together, Foster told People Magazine, “He’s one of the greatest guys ever, an incredible co-star,” adding that Jackman taught her how to lead with confidence. She also shared similar sentiments at the 2024 Drama Desk Awards, where she hosted alongside Aaron Tveit. Tveit, who also worked with Jackman on the Les Misérables film, agreed with Foster’s praise, saying it was important to express how great Jackman was as a co-star.
As for 2024, Jackman has been keeping busy with his return as Wolverine in the Deadpool & Wolverine film, sharing the screen with Ryan Reynolds in the highly anticipated Marvel movie directed by Shawn Levy.
Foster’s Broadway revival of Once Upon a Mattress will have its final performance in Los Angeles on January 5, 2025, marking the end of her run in the production.
