Actor Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre during the Pushpa 2 premiere on December 4, which claimed the life of Revathi, a 35-year-old woman. Her son remains hospitalized following the incident.A police team, led by the assistant commissioner, apprehended Arjun at his residence in the presence of his family. He was then escorted to the police station.
The stampede occurred when Arjun’s arrival at the theatre, accompanied by his security team, caused a massive rush as fans scrambled to gain entry. Poor crowd management reportedly led to chaos and lathicharge by the authorities. According to the police, the theatre management failed to arrange adequate security measures or provide separate entry and exit routes for the actor and his team, despite being informed of their arrival.
Earlier, three individuals, including a co-partner of the theatre, were arrested in connection with the incident. A case was registered against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under Sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Chikkadpally police station, based on a complaint by Revathi’s family.
Arjun had previously filed a plea to quash the FIR and sought a stay on all legal proceedings, including his arrest. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with authorities focusing on identifying lapses that led to the stampede.
