If Dembélé will not renew his contract, FC Barcelona is open to selling him for €50-60m

Ousmane Dembélé is starting to test Joan Laporta’s patience. The club is keen to renew the player’s contract, which will expire on 30 June 2022, but the player and his agent keep putting off meetings with club officials, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barça sees it as a clear strategy to prolong the situation as long as possible; they also assume that the France international has an agreement in place to join another club on a free transfer before the 2022/23 season.

Laporta, on the other hand, is known to be a major fan of Dembele’s; he regards him as a unique personality and thinks his renewal to be critical as long as he takes the salary cut granted to him, an unavoidable measure given the financial realities of a covid-19-affected world. Juventus, on the other hand, is waiting in the wings if talks fail.

After Euro 2020, it’s predicted that he’ll tell Dembele plainly and honestly, “Renew your contract or you’ll be sold.” He’s a player that could generate some much-needed wealth for a club that desperately needs it, and he’s yet to live up to his full potential at Camp Nou, having been plagued by injury after injury since his big-money signing from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017. Dembélé’s departure would not be seen negatively because the winger is still considered injury-prone; some also believe that he is inconsistent and not as effective as he could be in front of goal.

Do you think Barcelona should sell Dembele or should they extend his contract, that is if Dembele agrees?
