IHCL signs a pact with BACL to build a 775-room hotel at Bengaluru airport

On June 8, Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) announced the signing of an agreement with Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL) for a 775-room hotel at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR).

BACL is wholly-owned subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Limited, and has been founded to develop the Airport City at BLR Airport.

The contract with BACL will be of ‘management’ to operate another hotel at the BLR Airport where IHCL operates Taj Bangalore.

South Asia’s largest hospitality company has stated that the hotel would be a combination of a 450-room Vivanta and a 325-room Ginger hotel.

“Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru is one of the fastest growing airports in the world. The new upcoming hotel complex, along with Taj Bangalore, will offer a combined inventory of 1,150 rooms catering to the needs of this dynamic and evolving market,” said Puneet Chhatwal, the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IHCL.

Additionally, IHCL will have 12 airports in the city. According to The Economic Times, it already has a portfolio of 22 hotels including 55 under development globally across 4 continents, 12 countries and in over 100 locations.

Munukutla, the CEO of BACL said, “This is a steppingstone towards making BLR Airport a significant destination for the region. The airport city project will not only help meet the growing commercial needs of people, but also create massive job opportunities, as well as boost economies of the state and the country.”

The airport city will provide leisure, retail, entertainment and hospitality along with a multipurpose concert arena for hosting large conventions and host.
