Neymar is regarded as one of the best forwards in modern football. The Brazilian has achieved a great deal of fame, has played for two of the best football clubs in the world, and has had tremendous success in his career.
Neymar began his career with local club Santos in 2009 before joining FC Barcelona in 2013. He left Barcelona to join PSG in a move that shook the football world in 2017.
Here are some of the insane records that Neymar Jr. holds:
- After setting up four goals and scoring another for Barcelona against Celtic in 2016, the 28-year-old holds the record for the most assists in a single UCL match (along with Carlos Martins and Zlatan Ibrahimovic).
- During his country’s triumphant 2016 campaign, he scored the fastest-ever Olympic goal, netting after only 15 seconds in a semi-final win over Honduras. He also set a Guinness World Record with the goal.
- He is also the only player to have scored in winning finals of both the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores (South America’s version of the UCL), having done so with Santos and Barcelona, respectively.
- At the international level, Neymar is the youngest player to reach 100 international caps for Brazil (aged 27).
- The Parisians paid an incredible €222 million (R4.5 billion) to sign him in 2017, which was more than double the previous record. This record appears unlikely to be broken anytime soon. In addition, Neymar holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest transfer.
Neymar is one of the most gifted talents and a treat to watch. He’s currently 29 and just extended his contract at PSG to 2026. Will we see him breaking records or will injuries get to him?
