The Indian team is set to face England in the third and final ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of their Champions Trophy 2025 preparations. The match comes amid significant squad changes, with Jasprit Bumrah officially ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury.
India’s updated squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
BCCI confirmed Bumrah’s exclusion late on Tuesday night, just before the deadline for final squad submissions. Harshit Rana, the young pacer who impressed in the ODI series against England, has been named as Bumrah’s replacement in the final squad. Additionally, Varun Chakaravarthy replaces Yashasvi Jaiswal, bringing in an extra spin option for India.
Bumrah sustained his back injury during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney last month. He was forced to leave the field due to back spasms and was later sent for scans. Despite undergoing rehabilitation, the fast bowler failed to recover in time for the marquee ICC event.
India’s final ODI before the Champions Trophy
With India already leading 2-0 in the series, Rohit Sharma’s men will look to secure a clean sweep against England. More importantly, the match provides an opportunity for Virat Kohli to find his form ahead of the Champions Trophy, as he has struggled for runs in recent games.
The final ODI is also special for India as they return to the Narendra Modi Stadium, where they suffered a heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia. This game presents a chance for redemption, boosting morale before their Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai under the hybrid model.
