India’s active COVID-19 cases dropped below the 5.5 lakh-mark, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, adding the decline in active cases is supplemented by an exponential rise in recoveries. The country has so far recorded 82,67,623 confirmed COVID-19 cases, while the death toll reached 1,23,097 after 490 new fatalities were reported. Over 76 lakh people have recovered from the infection so far, pushing the national recovery rate to 91.96 per cent.
