“India-bashing should come to an end,” urges Anand Mahindra, citing the ‘Mumbai Model.’

As Japan confronts a new wave of coronavirus infections, businessman Anand Mahindra has urged officials to emulate the “Mumbai model,” stating that the virus can only be eradicated if everyone works together to “heal the globe together.” The Chairman of the Mahindra Group further urged individuals to refrain from “India-bashing,” implying that nothing of value could be brought to the debate.

Mr. Mahindra has been vocal about the pandemic on social media, offering advice and retweeting ideas that people should follow in these trying times. On Tuesday, he published a report claiming that during a new wave of the pandemic, hospitals in Japan’s Osaka, a huge port city and commercial centre akin to Mumbai, are running out of beds and ventilators.

Many people praised Mr. Mahindra for speaking out against those who merely criticize without offering any solutions.

Many, however, disagreed with the 66-year-old tycoon, claiming that criticizing a government is not the same as criticizing the country.

After learning from the first wave last year, Mumbai officials have made significant changes to their strategy for dealing with the second wave. They opted for a centralized bed allocation, which included some private hospitals, and planned for an oxygen shortage by setting up storage facilities.
